Life on Life Curriculum
Transform a Nation—Help Vulnerable and At-Risk Children Trust, Heal and Grow.
A Comprehensive Discipleship Curriculum for Vulnerable and At-Risk Children around the world.
What Is It?
Life on Life is curriculum for 8-12-year-old children who are vulnerable and at-risk. It was created to transform children through biblically based spiritual formation, character qualities, and life skills lessons. Vulnerable children are those who experience difficult things in life including poverty, war, physical, verbal, and sexual abuse, human trafficking, abandonment, neglect, etc. The curriculum promotes holistic growth through trauma-informed lessons that are child-centered and include active learning, play, and art therapy. Resource articles written by experts are included to help equip teachers to help vulnerable children with difficult topics. This 3-year, 1-day per week curriculum is a tool for the Holy Spirit to help children’s hearts heal from trauma, develop strong character, and learn valuable life skills, all of which lays the foundation for them to become leaders in their culture as adults. Lessons are contextualized and translated to best fit each culture’s children.
Why is it needed?
In response to pastors’ requests in 2010 for materials for vulnerable children in India, David C Cook, a leading curriculum provider for over 140 years, developed this curriculum. It was first used by orphans in India as the J127 program, which continues today with over 4000 children. In 2011, the Anglican Church of Uganda requested Sunday school materials from David C Cook. In response, David C Cook Global Mission revised and worked with in-country editors to make the curriculum contextualized for their children called Children at Risk curriculum and Whole Life Discipleship. Today, this curriculum has evolved further and is called Life on Life. David C Cook Global Mission is working with organizations in more than 20 nations, and 14 languages to customize and contextualize the material to reach the children of developing nations.
The curriculum offers discipleship that brings life-transformation to the whole child through three types of lessons: spiritual formation, character qualities, and life skills. The curriculum provides all a teacher needs to see vulnerable and at-risk children grow in their faith, develop strong character qualities that will shape them as adults, and life skills that empower them to be healthy adults. All lessons are biblically based.
Topics covered include:
Jesus Loves Me, Forgiveness, God Cares When I’m Afraid, Truthfulness, Integrity, Anger Management, Hygiene, Staying Safe from Traffickers, and many more.
Currently Life on Life is being used in over 20 nations in 14 different languages.
